The smart hotel: how guest-room automation pays back

A key card switch, a presence sensor and a standardised room — the three things that define the economics.

Where the money actually leaks

After payroll, a hotel's largest line item is electricity, and most of it goes on cooling. The core problem is not that a guest sets 18 degrees, but that the unit runs while nobody is in the room: the guest left for the day and the climate stayed on. At a hundred rooms, that stops being a rounding error.

Two measures that produce most of the effect

First, an energy-saving key card switch: when the guest leaves, the room is de-energised apart from standby circuits. Second, a presence sensor that distinguishes "nobody is in the room" from "the card is out but the guest is asleep". Together they drop climate to standby and switch off lights without touching the fridge or waking the guest.

Why a standard room matters more than an equipment discount

The cost of a hotel project is set not by the price of one panel but by how many times you repeat the same solution. We design a single room in full — equipment schedule, panel diagram, panel positions, scene logic — get it approved, and replicate it across the floor. That reduces both installation cost and maintenance cost: one spares kit for the whole hotel rather than ten different configurations.

Why Buspro rather than wireless

A hotel means hundreds of devices behind concrete walls, a shared guest Wi-Fi network, and a fault-tolerance requirement where a failure must not affect neighbouring rooms. This is precisely what Buspro was built for: an addressed wired bus, an industrial standard, and equipment with a long life cycle. We work with HDL as a partner of the official distributor in Uzbekistan, and equipment carries a 5-year warranty.

What automation gives beyond the electricity bill

Central visibility. Reception sees every room's status on one screen: where do-not-disturb is set, who has requested housekeeping, where a window is open while climate is running, where a door has been left ajar. That changes how staff work more than the kilowatt savings do, even though it is harder to put a number on.
